# Manage parents, representatives and children

Create guardian accounts that do not train, add children without an email, link children to their parents and convert a minor into an adult account.

MatGoat distinguishes the person who trains from the person managing their account or paying for them. A parent can train and have linked children; a representative can manage students without training. Before creating another profile, check existing accounts and who should retain access to information and payments.

Before linking accounts, use the [family billing guide](https://matgoat.com/en/guides/family-billing-martial-arts/) to define the payer, children covered and pricing arrangement.

## Choose the appropriate profile

The add-student form can create a representative and select the students they represent when you have invitation permission. Representatives appear in their own tab within **Students** and do not have the attendance profile of someone who trains at the academy.

A child without email can have a managed profile. The child category belongs to the belt ladder and does not replace a birth date. A minor-age badge is calculated from that date when the academy collects the field, so category and legal age should not be treated as interchangeable.

## Link an existing family

1.  Find both the adult’s and the child’s existing profiles
2.  Open child management or the appropriate permissions tab
3.  Select an eligible person to link and review their plans
4.  Confirm the relationship and inspect both profiles

Role changes and links made through the permissions tab require an administrator. Selection options prevent certain conflicts, including students already represented by someone else. Do not create a duplicate to bypass a restriction; investigate the current relationship first.

Converting a training adult into a representative can transfer their coverage and payments to a beneficiary. This has financial consequences and is more than a label change. Read the confirmation and resolve any conflicting plans before proceeding with the conversion.

## Review payments, messages and unlinking

The training beneficiary and payer can be different people. Check who can manage the subscription and who receives messages. A family link does not automatically make the child the owner of every payment recorded by the adult or permit every family member to change the payer’s subscription.

Unlinking does not delete the child’s account or academy membership. Some management routes block the operation while active plans or family coverage remain. Resolve that coverage first rather than deleting a profile to force a relationship change.

## Provide independent access when appropriate

Converting a managed account to an adult account has its own form and teacher permission. Check identity, email and responsibilities before sending access. Staff cannot freely replace the login email through the ordinary student profile.

Parents can use [My Children](https://matgoat.com/en/support/manage-your-children-in-matgoat/) after signing in to their own account. To create a profile without email or prepare an invitation, follow [student registration](https://matgoat.com/en/support/add-students/). Do not assume every academy’s initial public signup supports adding several children at once.
